Mount Skip Rabbit Captain Andy Hutchinson has rounded round off a fine season for the section with promotion in Section C of the Halifax and Huddersfield Union League.

It was achieved with a 5-0 win at home to Marsden in their last match. They finished one point behind champions Crow Nest.

After retaining the Ryburn Trophy over two matches earlier in the season and winning back the Charlestown Trophy from Todmorden for the first time since 2004, it makes Hutchinson the most successful Skip Rabbit Captain for many a year.

He has regularly included two of Skip’s younger players, Harry Wade and Sam Scholes, in the absence of a junior team.

Octaganerian Bob Grearson is probably the oldest to play in the league.

Others who have played their part in this success are Maurice Lowry, Mark Wade, Steve Scholes, Paul Elliot and Gavin Degnan.

Julia White was a convincing winner of Todmorden GC captain Alan Dickinson’s ladies stableford played in windy conditions.

The 15-handicapper scored 37 points to win from Jane Studd (35 pts) with Irena Brown (34 pts) a close third. Gill Neely had the only birdie, on the 10th.

Mike Wardrobe’s Rabbits Captain’s Prize competition took place at Rive Rocks on Saturday.

The morning starters faced dry conditions while those who teed off after 1.00pm had to contend with rain.

In-form Trevor Hemmington won the Stableford competition, edging out Ben Whitham(35 points) with Matt Saxon third (35 points).

Todmorden GC’s Michael Murray and Dave Stafford were in sparkling form in the Halifax-Huddersfield Union’s 23-13 success over East Riding at Dewsbury.

The Rive Rocks pair had a one hole win in the morning foursomes. Murray then won his singles contest 5 and 4 and Stafford had a 3 & 2 victory.

Hebden Bridge’s Henry Butterworth won both his matches for the Union juniors in a 19-17 defeat by Teesside at Cleveland.
