If you have ever wanted to know what it feels like to whizz along a zip slide, you have your chance this weekend!

Robinwood Activity Centre opens the doors of its Dobroyd Castle, Pexwood Road, Todmorden site on Saturday, August 31.

It is free to get in and from charges made for some of the activities money will go to two charities: Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team and the children’s hospice Derian House.

The centre will be open from 10am to 4pm and the centre’s event organisers hope it will be a great family day out.

Jo Sargent, who has organised the event with Caroline Binfield, said there would be plenty going on. “We have got a bouncy castle, there will be canoeing, raft-building. a trapeze, a zip wire, archery, a giant swing and an obstacle course. We can also offer indoor caving, an indoor climbing wall and a crate challenge, where you have try and build towers of them while attached to ropes,” she said.

There will also be some team problem solving similar to that which used to be featured on the television show The Crystal Maze, where teams were set physical and mental tasks to find crystals.

Jo added: “We will have some live music on and there will be things like face painting, ice cream stalls and a hog roast. If people want to look inside the castle, we will be happy to show them around.”

Anyone coming by car is asked to use car parks at either Eddingbrook, Bacup Road, Todmorden, or the Hare and Hounds, Burnley Road, Todmorden, from where minibus shuttles will run around every 15 minutes or so - there is no parking at the castle.
