A smiley face sign not only encourages drivers to watch their speed limits but also records details of vehicles passing it in excess of the legal limits, safety campaigners heard.
The information is recorded for statistical purposes and possible future enforcement action, members of Todmorden Accident Prevention Council were told.
Still concerned over the speed of many vehicles travelling around Todmorden, they have asked for the sign to be used in the Cornholme area and want police to take more enforcement action.
