Les Miserables is in its final stages of rehearsal and is shaping up to be an amazing show, staged by Hippodrome Youth Theatre at the Halifax Road venue in Todmorden from Tuesday, December 3 to Saturday, December 7 (7.15pm).
On Sunday the lead cast of Hippodrome Youth Theatre’s production were asked to attend a photo shoot as a modern day interpretation of themselves, and asked to share their thoughts on the show and youth theatre, now in its 31st year. Here’s what several of them had to say.
Beth Sutcliffe (Madame Thenardier) can’t remember not being a member of the theatre!
Her first part was an urchin in Oliver at the age of five. Her favourite role to date is The Cat in Honk, however she does love playing Madame Thenardier.
“Being a member of HYT changes you, I’ve not only been taught everything I know about theatre here, but I’ve met the most amazing people and made friends for life.
“I’m so excited for show week and hope all our hard work pays off,” she said.
Max Anderson (Valjean) has been at HYT for six years now and says that it’s changed him for the better. It’s also given him a lot of opportunities to improve his singing and acting skills.
Tom Howard (Javert), has been in HYTs for seven years and is disappointed that this will be his last show, his first being The Wizard of Oz where he played a Munchkin.
“I have loved every minute of every show, and am looking forward to taking on the challenge of Les Mis,” he said.
