A community brass band has welcomed new recruits and is starting a fundraising campaign for new rehearsal space as part of its plans for 2014.

The Todmorden Community Brass Senior Band is delighted to see sisters Jasmine and Elisa Catenga move up to the top ranks just two years after joining the beginners’ band as new learners.

Musical director Pam Smith said: “This is what banding is all about - providing the tuition, ensemble playing and motivation to ensure we can continue to provide a brass band for the people of Todmorden.

“It’s wonderful to see young recruits make progress and continue the banding tradition.”

The band would like to thank Todmorden Town Council for its grant funding and everybody who donated so generously over the festive period.

The money will be used to maintain the band room, insure and maintain instruments and perform around the local area.

Band chairwoman Liz Hinchliffe said: “This really does help to ensure we can continue into the future.”

The band’s plans for the future include launching a campaign to raise funds for a planned extension to the band room, which would provide extra rehearsal areas and storage space.
