Air quality in the Calder Valley is the subject of a special meeting to be held in the area in mid-February.
The special meeting of the Sustainable Transport Group, part of Upper Calder Valley Renaissance, is to be held on Tuesday, February 18, at 7pm in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall in Hebden Bridge.
The speaker will be Sally Jones, who is West Yorkshire Low Emission Strategy Manager for Air Quality at Bradford City Council and she will give a presentation looking on the work being carried in the region out as part of the Low Emissions Strategy.
It is hoped that a member of the Air Quality Team from Calderdale Council will also be able to come, said Dr Lesley Mackay, chair of the group.
She said: “The presentation will comprise a brief overview of the current work being undertaken and will then focus on the A646 corridor and the influences on air quality like stock, bus operators, HGVs, infrastructure and so on. Finally, the focus will be on what the people of Hebden Bridge with our polluted main road from Machpelah to Bridge Lanes and people of Luddenden Foot with a substantial section of Burnley Road, both of which have already been identified as areas requiring Air Quality Management, can do.
“The problems of air quality and pollution are not going to go away: they affect Hebden Bridge and Luddenden Foot now and in the future. They affect all those who use and live near the A646. We cannot go on ignoring it.”
