The valley will be alive with the sound of music as a prestigious festival of choirs comes to town.
Over the weekend of July 11 to July 13, Calder Valley Voices - with Calder Valley Women Singers, are hosting the 2014 Street Choirs Festival.
As many as 35 choirs from all over the country, with up to 800 people, will be singing on the streets of Hebden Bridge, and organisers are asking residents to open up their doors to give participants somewhere to stay.
Treasurer of Calder Valley voices Ali Miles said: “What we need from the very generous people of upper Calder Valley are your spare beds, sofa beds and air beds.
“With accommodation being in short supply in the area, and many of the b and bs already fully booked for that weekend, we are looking for people to host a singer or two, for the two nights (Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12).
“You don’t need to offer meals - just bathroom facilities, maybe tea/coffee and somewhere for them to rest their weary heads.
“In return hosts will be welcome to join us for free at the concert on the Friday night when we are being entertained by the fantastic Seize the Day and O’Hooley and Tiddow, amongst others.”
The festival will start on the Friday evening with professional concerts at Hope Baptist Church and Hebden Bridge Picture House, with O’Hooley and Tiddow, and Cease the Day both on the bill. Choir members and homestay participants will be able to enter this event for free and any remaining tickets will be sold to the public.
On the Saturday all choirs will be performing in Lees Yard, Hebden Bridge, and singing up to six songs. In the afternoon each choir will then have two 20 to 30 minute busking sessions at various locations around Hebden Bridge.
The day will end with a showcase concert by the choirs for the choirs at the picture house and church - both on New Road.
Each choir will get 10 minutes each and full details are to be confirmed.
On the Sunday morning there will be singing, dancing and instrumental workshops, which will only be available to participants in the festival.
The weekend will be rounded off with a “big picnic” at Hebden hey Scout Camp.
