Iya Sako, one of the UK’s most inspirational djembe players and teachers will be running a weekly African drumming workshop at Wadsworth Community Centre.

Iya is a renowned and highly respected djembe master with an incredibly powerful playing technique. He hails from Guinea and has an encouraging and gentle teaching style.

Equally at home with primary school children or students from London’s Royal College of Music he is in high demand for concerts and performances throughout the UK.

“So this is a chance to be taught by one of the best djembe players in the UK,” said a community centre spokesman.

Classes (for all experience levels) are from 8pm to 9.30pm starting on Thursday, February 20, and the cost is £7.

You will need to bring a djembe (African goblet drum) if you have one – if not Iya can lend you one for the night.

Wadsworth Community Centre is situated at Billy Lane, Old Town.

To book onto this course or for more information contact Iya (after February 15 on 07930 872089) or Derek (anytime) on 07890 205980.
