Calderdale councillors have voted against independent recommendations to increase their allowances.
The issue was discussed at a full council meeting at Halifax Town Hall last week and the feeling against the rise was overwhelming.
Coun Adam Wilkinson (Lab, Sowerby Bridge) said: “It’s a difficult issue and I accept it is an independent report but I don’t think now is the right time to be considering our own allowances as there are families struggling in Calderdale.”
The busy agenda also saw Calder ward councillor Janet Battye hand in a petition asking the council to tidy up derelict sites in Todmorden.
And proposals to completely re-build Ferney Lee Primary School were given the go-ahead.
