A HEALTH group launched a partnership with Incredible Edible Todmorden (IET) at its annual conference.

NHS Forest is working with IET and the ambulance service to plant trees on NHS estates to link health and environment.

Delegates at the NHS Forest annual conference went on a tour of Todmorden Health Centre to see the fruit trees, fruit bushes and apothecary garden that have been planted.

It forms part of the health walk in Todmorden which aims for GPs to refer their patients to take part in maintaining the planting and using the walk.

A locally sourced lunch was provided, giving delegates the opportunity to sample food grown by IET.

Pam Warhurst, of IET, said: “Working together around local food is the most positive, inspiring way I know for each of us to show we can do something to help ourselves and our communities.

“At Incredible Edible we grow in public spaces, share new skills and support local businesses.

“This partnership is a fantastic way of creating healthy edible landscapes right in the heart of our towns. Eating local fruit in an orchard we planted ourselves - what a perfect prescription for health.”

Alexis Keech, environmental and sustainability manager at Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: “The NHS Forest is a truly inspirational project that enables the NHS to provide a sustainable future in and outside of its properties

“We are proud to be involved and keen to continue planting across the country.”
