Todmorden atoned for their losses in the Pollard Cup with a 10-5 win for the men’s team against Nelson to keep their title hopes alive.
Tod’s hopes of avenging an earlier 8-5 defeat took a knock when Phil Glister was ruled out through injury but Sourena Jowker stepped in at short notice for a critical contest.
Jowker and Laurence C Knoble lost the first game 21-17, took the second by the same score but went down 21-13 in the third.
Matthew Shackleton and Mike Kaye had no such problems on the other court, winning 21-14 and 21-17 to give Tod a 3-2 lead.
Jowker and Kaye stretched the advantage to 5-2 with wins by 21-12 and 21-15.
Over on court two, Knoble and Shackleton made harder work of it, winning the first 21-13, losing the second 22-20 and winning the third 21-19 to increase the lead to 7-3.
Nelson hit back by winning two of the next three games but on the second court Jowker and Shackleton won 21-18 and 21-12 to give Tod a dominating win.
That sets up Tod for the final match away to Townley, when they will be looking to repeat an earlier success.
If they can manage that it could put them level with Nelson and then it will all come down to points difference.
