Musical director Helen Clarkson and her 12-piece orchestra are busily preparing the soundtrack for a hit cowboy-themed musical.

Helen will be at the helm for Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (TAODS) production of “Oklahoma” at the Hippodrome Theatre.

The rehearsal space has been resonating to the sound of classic tunes such as “Oh what a beautiful morning” and “People will say we’re in love”.

TAODS spokesperson Liz McLaughlin said: “Helen Clarkson is again our musical director with a 12-piece orchestra under her baton.

“She has worked extremely hard since the beginning of the year with the soloists and the chorus to bring you a stunning show.”

Helen, an award-winning musical director, is nominated for a NODA North West Award for TAODS’ production of “Les Miserables” last December.

In 1943, “Oklahoma” marked the first collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and launched what became arguably the most successful partnership in American musical theatre.

The show is a book musical - a musical play where the songs and dances are fully integrated into a story.

Other famous songs from the soundtrack include “The Surrey with the fringe on top”, “Kansas City”, “Out of my dreams”, “I cain’t say no”, “Many a new day”, “The farmer and the cowman” and, of course, the title track “Oklahoma”.

The show will run at the Hippodrome from April 8-12.

For more information about showtimes and ticket prices, visit the TAODS website www.todhip.org.

Tickets can also be booked in person at Todmorden Information Centre.
