Following two of its most successful shows featuring young actors, a theatre group is set to start its own junior section.
With shows like The Wizard of Oz and Oliver - which produced two NODA award winners for its region in Isacc Hughes-Dennis and Elizabeth Wrathall - St Michael’s Amateurs are to set up the section specifically for budding young actors and singers aged between seven and 18.
The first meeting of the St Michael’s Amateurs Juniors In Concert (SMAJIC) will be held at St Michael’s Church Parish Hall at 7.30pm on Monday, April 14.
Eric Alston, of St Michael’s Amateurs, said: “We have done a couple of shows with a fantastic children’s chorus and Isaac and Elizabeth won best junior performer and best actress in the NODA awards.
“ We decided in the light of this to have a more formalised junior section.
“At the first meeting on April 14 we’re going to sing through our first production for our juniors which will be Walt Disney’s classic The Jungle Book, which we will stage on July 17, 18 and 19. This is for all ages from seven to 18 inclusive, just come along.”
Young backstage helpers are also welcome to come along and join, but they must be 14 or over, said Eric.
In keeping with its emphasis on youngsters, SMAJIC will have its own committee and joint chairmen have been appointed, young section members Stephen Wrathall and Charlotte Alderson.
