A BREAK-IN at their clubhouse, followed by another postponement, has added to Todmorden Borough’s frustrations.
The West Lancashire League outfit’s Bellholme base at Rochdale Road, Walsden was raided on Friday night.
“They didn’t take much - they were after money and there wasn’t any,” said manager John Gilford.
However, the raiders smashed an external security door and damaged security lighting and the alarm.
“It must have taken them an hour to get in,” said Gilford.“There was a fair bit of damage. We are not flush with money and it will have to be put right.”
Saturday’s Division Two match against Whinney Hill at Accrington was called off four hours before kick off with water sitting on top of a frozen ground.
Borough dropped a place to ninth as CMB won 5-0 at Milnthorpe Corinthians, who will be Borough’s visitors in the first match of 2013 on January 5.
Gilford is not optimistic of playing before then with Tod scheduled to sign off for a fortnight at home to Kendal County on Saturday.
“If we don’t get some fine weather and wind we won’t play because it is absolutely sodden,” said Gilford earlier in the week.
The reserves’ match was also postponed last Saturday and Gilford’s attempts to keep his players ticking over were thwarted by a frozen astroturf pitch at Todmorden Sports Centre.
Jack Dungworth is in particular need of action after an ankle injury while Gilford’s son Elliott, faces another spell on the sidelines with a hand injury after a car accident.
Should the weather improve enough, Borough could face a tough test on Saturday.
Kendal County, like their hosts, have played 14 league games but have 11 points more and are three places higher. They have already won five times on their travels.
Gilford said: “Kendal are not a bad outfit and a nice footballing side.”
He said he would be interested to see what team County fielded as Kendal Town in the Evo-Stik League were building a team made up of local lads. He didn’t know whether County had been affected.
“County have been in our league for about four years and always finish in the top five, but we have been able to compete well with them,” he said.
