Following the recent Walsden veterans’ versus Ex-Clarets footballers cricket match at Walsden Cricket Club’s Scott Street ground, another clash between warriors of old is planned for Friday, July 11!
Organiser Scott Heywood-Bell explains: “The recent vintage event has lit the touch paper as myself, Mark Hooson and Albert Ross have made the decision we will try and put together a team that will take on local cricket clubs in friendly fixtures this season with the hope in creating a mini league for season 2015.
“We have contacted Todmorden CC who have agreed to the friendly game, when wickets will be pitched at 6.15pm. And we have a tempting admission price of just £2 adult, £1 concessions. We are hoping to fire up the BBQ and provide other refreshments together with a fully stocked bar. We are also using the event to promote #SPIT4DAD, the stem cell donor campaign.”
Walsden will include Tony Plane, Mick Butcher, Jim Kidd, Jason Mitchell, David Blake, Kenny Gale, Simon Wheelright, Scott Heywood-Bell, Albert Ross and Chris Ross, while at the wicket for Todmorden will be Heath Kennedy, David Whitehead, John Barker, Jon Stobbs, Ibra Ali, Chris Barker, David Walters, Billy Randles, David Hatton, Duncan Sutcliffe and Richard Baigent.
