Hebden Bridge Arts Festival closed in style with a massive French themed Le Grand d’Party street event.
Some of Europe’s top street performers entertained big crowds of locals and Le Tour fans who had flooded into town to watch the race.
The free shows by acts including Circo Rum Baba’s L’Hotel, Bruce Airhead and cold air balloonists, Aerostiers in St George’s Square and the Town Hall were part of the festival’s thank you for the support from the community resulting in sell out shows in the Trades Club, Picture House and Town Hall.
Festival Director Helen Meller said: “We were astonished by the size of crowds who turned out to watch the acts and the performers told us they loved the atmosphere round town..
“The feedback we have had about the events we have put on has been incredibly positive so we wanted to thank all the venues who really helped us out, and Thompson Reuters who sponsored the street festival. But none of this would happened without our team of hard working volunteers who have really pulled out all the stops this year in what has been a packed programme.”
The festival team are already planning next’s year festival which will run from June 26 to July 5 2015.
l The team bringing the play To The Dam are ever closer to their opening performance on Friday, July 18, as part of this year’s 24:7 Theatre Festival in Manchester. The hard-hitting, sad yet funny play is written and directed by local writer John Clarke, stars local actor Jo Gerard and is a one-woman-show set in Todmorden, featuring Gaddings Dam.
Meanwhile, there is an open rehearsal at Manchester’s Cornerhouse on Saturday, July 12, from 8pm which is a free event. The show itself runs until July 24.
