Todmorden CC have revealed that they are keen to bring back their overseas man, Michael Neser, for 2015.

The Australian showcased his talents with his second successive century and five wickets as the Centre Vale side registered a notable 43-run home win over third-placed Enfield in the Lancashire League last Sunday.

Todmorden are showing improved form, spearheaded by Neser and backed by the likes of opening batsman Simon Newbitt and skipper Andrew Sutcliffe.

The club’s cricket chairman Stuart Parker said efforts were under way to retain Neser’s services.

“We have offered him terms and the ball is in his court,” he said.

“He is a very, very good player and we are absolutely delighted with him.

“He has fitted in well and he is doing the business on the field.”

Neser has scored 733 runs at 81.44 and taken 44 wickets at 16.54 each this season for the ninth-placed side.

Parker added: “He leads the attack with good pace and he hits the ball a long way.”

Parker said Todmorden’s aim for the season was to improve on last year’s 10th place and after a slow start to the season the team was gaining momentum.

“We are getting it right and we look a good side when we put it together,” he said.

Tod travel to Worsley Cup finalists Rawtenstall on Saturday and then host Bacup, who they beat away early in the month, on Sunday.

Neser made 101 last Sunday, following up his 122 not out at Nelson the previous weekend, to help Todmorden post 241 for five at Centre Vale.

He hit 10 fours and five sixes and his main backing came from opener Simon Newbitt (52).

Neser followed up with five for 37 as Enfield were dismissed for 198, his victims including visiting pro Werner Coetsee for 50.

Todmorden seconds travel to Bacup on Sunday looking to bounce back from a 42-run defeat at Enfield last weekend.

Hopes soared when left arm spinners Nigel Doyle (five wickets) and Hamza Ali (three) dismissed the hosts for 119 but Tod managed only 77 in reply.
