A solo exhibition of paintings by the artist Richard Wincer will be held in August at the David Wright Gallery, Artsmill in Hebden Bridge.
Richard is an acclaimed painter noted for his landscape paintings.
He has exhibited in galleries in London and throughout the country and has been a regular exhibitor in the Summer Show at the Royal Academy.
Richard lives and creates his art in Hebden Bridge and has been a practising artist for 25 years. When asked what influences his work he stated: “I have lived in Yorkshire since 1990 and the surrounding landscape of the Calder Valley has inspired many of my works. Although these paintings are abstract they are reminiscent of water and exposed moorland, which is so characteristic of this region.”
The exhibition focuses on the recent paintings done in the last two years.
Together with smaller works it includes many of Richard’s larger canvases. Regarding his working practice he stated: “Working on a larger scale can be both challenging and rewarding.
“It has helped me to become more expressive and gives a lot of personal freedom.
“My aim is to capture the quality of light and to convey the feeling of peace and quiet that can be felt when walking in a remote landscape.”
This is a unique opportunity to see a collection of his work, which is now much in demand and in many private collections.
The gallery was recently refurbished and named after David Wright, the founder of Artsmill, which is in Linden Road, who died in 2013.
The exhibition opens on August 6 and runs until August 31. Opening times are from 11am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and entrance is free.
