More than 40 years ago, the West Riding County Council built Calder College (now Todmorden Community College) to replace the old Rochdale Road Tech., where tertiary skills were taught to a very high standard in many subjects.
This was to be the flagship for technical education in the upper Calder Valley.
In my opinion, Calderdale has allowed this to wither away, until now there is only some IT taught.
Calderdale Council have an asset review ongoing, and there are rumours of a sixth form college, options ranging from conversion to offices through to closure.
Meanwhile your sister paper the Halifax Courier has reported a sixth form new build in the centre of Halifax, uncosted and unfunded as yet.
It would be good if Calderdale Council could inform, and indeed consult, the 14,000 people who live in Todmorden as to the future of our inheritance from the West Riding.
