The Victoria Theatre in Halifax got a little taste of panto fever this week when they held their auditions to find young performers for the junior chorus of Jack and the Beanstalk.

More than 100 children between the ages of nine and 16 attended the audition. Of these, Producers Imagine Theatre selected 20 children to make up the two teams, called Baked Beans and Runner Beans, who will get to perform in the pantomime, along with another ten children who are reserves.

Sarah Boden from Imagine Theatre says: “We were delighted by the high standard of all the children who auditioned for us and it was really hard to whittle it down to just twenty children. The children all have a lot of hard work ahead of them and it is really rewarding to watch the them develop their skills further during the rehearsals.”

The children will be starring alongside Halifax’s favourite comic, Neil Hurst, as Simple Simon, Steve Fortune as Dame Trot, Huddersfield based Ann Micklethwaite as Fairy, Jamie Sheerman and Fleshcreep, Jamie Anderson as the King, Katriona Perrett as the Princess with Yorkshire’s Felicity Skiera making her Imagine Theatre pantomime debut as Jack.

Tickets are already on sale for Jack and the Beanstalk and due the popularity of the pantomime in the last few years it is recommended that you book early to ensure you can secure the performance times and seats that you would prefer.

Jack and the Beanstalk runs from Saturday, December 13, 2014, to Sunday, January 4, 2015.
