Bridgeholme, Mytholmroyd, Booth and Luddenden Foot all had something to celebrate on the final day of the Foster’s Halifax League season.
The big surprise was Bridgeholme seconds winning the Division Two title, making it a double for the Eastwood club after the firsts had been crowned champions.
Bridgeholme seconds trailed Greetland by seven points entering the final set of matches. However, they crushed Luddenden Foot by 140 runs while Greetland lost at Bradshaw.
Keith Hudson made 70 at the top of the Bridgeholme order and young wicketkeeper Thomas Stansfield (41 no) and Isaac Davy-Day (37 no) piled on late runs as Bridgeholme made 254 for eight.
Veteran Richard Pinder took six wickets for Foot, who could only manage 114 in reply with Phil Ashton making 50 and Oliver Davy-Day taking five for 26.
Club stalwart Hudson said the seconds’ success had come as a surprise. “We thought we had blown it by losing to Greetland and Bradshaw in previous weeks,” he said.
“We couldn’t wish for any more - both teams have done well.”
Greetland picked up only three points to Bridgeholme’s 12 after losing by four wickets at Bradshaw.
Mytholmroyd seconds needed two points at Oxenhope to seal promotion behind Southowram in Division One. They got 12 by dismissing their hosts for 203 - 15 year old Nathan Storton scoring 57 not out - and knocking off the runs for the loss of five wickets.
Mytholmroyd’s firsts only 10 men at home to Booth and were comfortably beaten in the battle for the runners-up berth in the Premier behind Jer Lane.
Royd made 215 for nine and Booth powered to 220 for one.
It was a nervy afternoon for Luddenden Foot firsts who made hard work of getting the couple of points at home to Northowram HT to ensure Division One safety.
