Todmorden Market Traders who are running a legacy stall for the son of Lee Rigby this weekend are also hoping to reunite one piece of memorabilia that has been donated with its owners family, is it is possible.
The group of Loving care market traders have received so much material for the stalls that they are now running the stall over two days, on Saturday, November 8, as well as Remembrance Sunday, from 9am to 3pm.
The proceeds are going to a trust fund for Jack, the son of the British soldier Lee Rigby who was killed near his Woolwich barracks in 2013.
Lee married Halifax girl Rebecca Metcalfe at St Anne’s Church, Southowram, in 2007.
After Lee’s death his family received help from the Todmorden branch of the Royal British Legion and Rebecca and Jack were their guests at an event.
Lee, who served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and who was brutally murdered in an attack by extremists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale - who were imprisoned in February 2014.
But a spokesperson for Loving care said they were hoping to reunite one item with a soldier’s family, if they could be located, as it is so personal.
It is a tan leather service belt owned by an Eighth Army veteran, whose surname and service number are stencilled on the back - “Parker 6898712.”
The soldier had decorated the belt with drawings and notes following the Eighth Army’s progress in North Africa, Crete and Greece in the Second World War.
The case of this item the spokesperson said: “It’s the whole of this man’s career in the army - it would be lovely if we can reunite it with his family.”
They can call the number below or come to the market stall where the item will be kept until mid-morning on the Sunday.
Other interesting item,s which have been donated and which will be for sale for a higher price than some items are some authentic American U.S. Marine Corps uniforms, which are various lengths, and allc lean and pressed, she said.
Items can be donated on the day and any items not sold on the days will be donated to Tia Greyhound Rescue and RSPCA animal welfare charities.
For any parties interested in donating items contact Todmorden Loving Care on 01706 817710.
