Bailey Sutton delivered a sublime six-goal haul in Todmorden Athletic Under Eights’ 12-1 home win over Warley Whites.

But the man of the match was Will Hammond as he was rarely, if ever, beaten in defence and topped his superb display with a brilliant half-volley finish from a Jack Suthers corner.

Todmorden were just too strong and closed down Warley at every opportunity, dictating the midfield with some excellent passing and movement often involving Euan Logue and Frank Cooper.

Freddie Priestley and Dan Adams both got two goals each, all from distance, with Jack Suthers adding one to cement a dominant Athletic display

Calderdale League leaders Todmorden Sports Centre Under 11 Tigers put in another fine performance to beat third-placed hosts King Cross Greens 6-2 and extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Tigers were dominant from the kick-off and Alex Thompson opened the scoring from a Noah Priestley cross.

Captain Ciaran Bourne struck a scorching long range free kick that the Greens ‘keeper couldn’t hold and Ollie Stephenson pounced to slot the second.

Sebastian Winstanley struck a post, which allowed Lenny Sorrell to put away the rebound, and then scored with a long-range free kick into the top corner.

Alex Thompson’s second, following an excellent move involving Winstanley and Priestley, made it 5-0 at half time.

The Greens manager must have delivered a stirring half time talk as Tigers were under pressure for 10 minutes and conceded twice to make it 5-2.

However, Tigers got back on top with their forwards going close on many occasions and a well-worked short corner from Sorrell allowed new signing Jed Denneny to fire home.

Winstanley and Bourne shared the man of the match honours for Tigers, who have now beaten all of their main rivals and hold a three point lead at the top.

A battling performance by Todmorden Sports Centre Under 16s failed to secure the result they deserved against Westwood Juniors.

The 3-2 defeat to their visitors from Bradford meant Todmorden crashing out of the West Riding County FA Junior Cup at the first stage.

Westwood raced into a two-goal lead but Todmorden pulled one back through an own goal and then equalised when Yannick Machado le Gal set up Henry Antemes to score.

Todmorden dominated the second half but were denied a penalty when Antemes was tripped and had a goal disallowed when the referee ruled that Josh Petersen’s long throw-in had been taken from the wrong place.

The visitors missed a penalty but took the lead soon after when a headed goal was allowed despite vehement protests from the home players, who claimed there had been a push in the build up.

Charlie Mariani missed a good chance to score and Machado le Gal hit a post with a fierce shot.

In the closing minutes the ball appeared to strike a defender’s hand but the referee turned down Todmorden’s penalty appeal.
