DISAPPOINTED Woodhouse United boss Marc Walters has questioned the commitment of some of his players following a heavy 8-0 defeat at Rochdale Sunday League Division One table-toppers Broadway Celtic last weekend.

Walters was unhappy at having to yet again field a weakened team due to late cry-offs.

He believes the fact that the team are having a difficult season following promotion from Division Two last time out is having a bearing on which players turn up and which don’t.

Woodhouse currently lie fourth from bottom with 10 points from 10 matches.

It is a far from ideal scenario and Walters is hoping that the situation will improve this weekend as he looks to pick up three points from his side’s visit to mid-table Duke of Wellington.

While victory would not see Woodhouse move up in the table, it would at least help to give them some breathing space.

“There was nothing we could do last Sunday - the opposition were so much stronger than us all round,” said Walters.

“We were 4-0 down at half-time and there was no way back really.

“It is hard enough playing the top of the league side at the best of times, but even worse when you have to put out a weakened team.

“The disappointing thing is that we played them at home earlier in the season and only lost 4-3.

“The truth is I need more players to turn up and show some commitment.

“It was a different story last year when we won promotion. We were doing well and everybody wanted to play.

“But it has been difficult this season and we have lost a few games and that has coincided with players not turning up.”

- TODMORDEN Borough’s hopes of tasting action in thier West Lancashire League Division Two clash at GSK Ulverston Rangers fell victim to the weather despite their hosts having high hopes of getting the game played. John Gilford’s men will now hope to get some action and shake off any rustiness this weekend when they travel to take on a Whinney Hill side who are going well in third. (2pm)
