New Group 3 Valley Veg*ns organised a well-attended musical and food event to celebrate World Vegan Day on November 1 at the Fielden Centre, Todmorden.
Incidentals headlined the event and played their frame drums in the company of a flute player who weaved enchanting sounds of classical and Native American flutes into the band’s usual sound.
In the bands shamanic Intro, played on shamanic drum, komuz (also known as Jew’s harp) and whistle, Incidentals incorporated a chant in the language Pali. They were also seen playing a fusion of Middle Eastern rhythms and Slavic songs.
Singer Claire Kingsley also provided entertainment, with bands Picnic Area and Lanky Bone appearing from Manchester to lighten up the night.
Volunteers from the Three Valley Veg*ns had rustled up delicious meals consisting of a number of dishes including Spicy Halloween Pumpkin Chilli, Moroccan Chick Pea and Squash Stew.
The event, which was set up to celebrate the founding of world’s first Vegan Society here in the UK in 1944, also saw members provide a stall with vegan chocolates and other treats.
The Vegan Society promotes compassionate lifestyle without use of animal products, and all musicians showed their support for the group after going vegan for the day.
