Lantern making workshops for the Lamplighter Festival in Todmorden got off to a flying start with more than a hundred people turning up to make lanterns.
And there’s still time to take part in the lantern parade in Todmorden on December 6, with further workshops being held at the Unitarian Church in Honey Hole Road, Todmorden on December 3 from 4pm to 6pm..
Entrance is by a suggested donation of £5 per lantern and all children under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult.
The Lamplighter Festival takes to the streets of Todmorden on December 6, with the lantern parade kicking off proceedings at 6pm and a host of fire shows, illuminated installations and street theatre taking place from 7pm to 9pm.
The event is being organised and produced by Handmade Parade, whose Chair Linda Green said: “It was fantastic to see so many people creating fantastic lanterns and there’s still time to get involved. If you took part in last year’s Lamplighter or the previous year’s Valley of Lights festival please do come along and make a lantern.
‘And if you’ve never taken part before but fancy being part of a spectacular parade, please come along too. Our aim is to put on an event which the Calder Valley will remember for years to come and the more people who get involved and support it, the better.”
Organisers are still looking for people to volunteer to be stewards on the night. Anyone who is interested should contact Sue at volunteer@handmadeparade.co.uk
This year’s Lamplighter highlights include fire shows by Flame Oz, music from Mr. Wilson’s Secondliners, Handmade Samba and Dhamak, illuminated installations by Spacecadets and giant flaming sculptural flowers by Walk the Plank.
The night will also feature the world premiere of a new interactive street show by Frolicked called “Rat Race” featuring a giant cheese, and performances by Todmorden Belly Dance. New this year will be a Christmas Night Market.
