Calder Valley’s A team became the first winners of a new fell relay race organised by Rossendale Harriers.
Gavin Mullholland, James Logue, Karl Gray and Ben Mounsey put in four of the six fastest legs to clock 3 hours 4 mins and 7 sec.
The race involves teams of four running the same six mile loop in turn. Runners headed out of the Rossendale Valley through the Lee Mill Quarry area and up to the Top of Leach.
Valley sent over two strong teams hoping to set the bar for the future.
The clag was down and the wind was getting up. and it was not a case of follow the leader, in fact many completed the course without seeing another runner.
Mounsey ran the fastest leg of the day (44 mins 33 sec) and won the £50 prize money.
Horwich were second in 3:09:26 and Calder’s B team of Tim Ellis, Joe Crossfield, Jonny Helliwell and Darren Key also put in a top performance to finish third out of the 25 teams in 3:21:33.
