Two Christmas Tree festivals have lit up the Calder Valley over the past week.

Members of the ‘Valley Crew’ after school club at Stubbings Infants School collected their winners trophy after their gingerbread tree was voted the best entry at the Christmas Tree Festival held at Hope Baptist Chapel last weekend.

The festival, which is in its third year, attracted hundreds of visitors over the weekend and raised £800 towards cost of refurbishing the toilet block, which the church hopes to start in the Spring.

The trees included entries from community groups, local shops, primary schools and families and will remain on display until Christmas. They can therefore be seen at the ‘Lovenotes’ singing workshop and concert on Friday, December 19, and the Candlelit Carol Service at 4pm on Sunday, December 21. Details of these and other events can be found at www.hope-baptist.org.uk

Further up the valley at St Michael’s Church, Cornholme, a festival was staged over two days and included a visit from Father Christmas. After the festival a Christingle service was held, completing a festive weekend.
