Ladies keen to do their Christmas shopping flocked to Todmorden C of E School and helped raise almost £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The gifts and crafts event was organised by the charity’s Todmorden fundraising committee.
Home-made Christmas cakes, cup cakes, jams and preserves were snapped up quickly, while hand-made chocolates, art and home-made cards, candles and china cups, Christmas decorations, jewellery and handbags stall were among the many other places where they were happy to part with their money for some great gifts while helping a good cause.
Once they were all “shopped-out”, most people enjoyed a sit down with a glass of wine, or cup of tea or coffee, and enjoyed cakes and sandwiches, provided by the school’s catering team, said a spokesperson for the committee.
“And a Cancer Research event would not be the same without a raffle or tombola – that night there was both, alongside an Advent Calendar with a twist – one that walked and talked!” she said. As well the people who attended the evening, the committee would like to thank Todmorden C of E school for hosting the event free of charge, she said.
