A former Todmorden man will put his ski jumping expertise to good use in a star-studded television show.

James Lambert left the town as an 18 year old to pursue his dream of becoming a ski jumper and in 2009 he set a British record when he jumped 93 metres in Switzerland.

Now, the 47-year-old, who lives in Oslo, Norway, will use his decades of skiing experience to train the celebrity stars of Channel 4 show The Jump.

It will be the second time James has been involved in the series and his appointment follows the success of last year’s show.

The second year of the winter sports competition will see 16 celebrities compete on the slopes, with household names including Joey Essex, Phil Tuffnell, Stacey Solomon, Steve-O, Sally Bercow and Lady Victoria Hervey all tipped to be taking part.

James said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the group’s achievements - the first time they get up there, the looks on their faces are priceless.

“They have acheived something they never thought was possible. When people get over that fear, I say to them if this is possible, what else is possible.

“I’m looking forward to meeting Steve-O from Jackass, I was a bit like him when I was younger and it’s that sense of humour that I love so much,”

Filming for the series has already begun and James flew out to Innsbruck, Austria, on Wednesday to put the new celebrity group through their paces.

The famous faces will take on some of the most challenging and dangerous winter sports in a bid to be crowned The Jump champion - firm favourites including the Bobsleigh, Slalom and Ski Cross will all feature.

The Jump will be presented by Davina McCall and will return to screens later this year.
