What’s on stage and screen over coming week

In cinema and music this week, there is plenty going on.

At Hebden Bridge Picture House, the highlight of the week is the BAFTA-nominated Theory of Everything, which runs from Friday, January 16, to Thursday, January 22 (7.45pm on Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 4.30pm screening on Sunday and an additional 10.30am screening on Tuesday), starring Eddie Redmayne in the biopic of the young Steven Hawking.

Also showing is Penguins of Madagascar, which is screened on Saturday and Sunday, January 17 and 18, and January 24 and 25 (1.30pm each screening), and, on Sunday, January 18 (7.45pm), Stations of the Cross, a story about the upbringing of a young girl raised in a strict Catholic family and her difficulty in navigating the strictures of her faith and the appeal of a normal teenage life.

l At Hebden bridge Trades Club, January 15 sees writer and brodcaster Stuary Maconie hosts “The People’s Songs” (8pm, £13/£15).

A disco for Central Street School is on Friday, January 16 (9pm, benefit gig).

January then closes out with an indie week into February, with ex-Only Ones star Peter Perrett on Thursday, January 29 (8pm, £12/£15) and light pysch Manchester band Blossoms and Made Made on the bill on Friday, January 30 (8pm, £6/£9).

In between is the Heavenly Records 25th anniversary series of gigs - note that since last week’s articles, the Jimi Goodwin gig has now also sold out but there are still tickets available for some of the other dates - see www.thetradesclub.com for the latest ticket availability for the shows and presentations which form part of the celebration event.
