Todmorden Borough face Croston Sports on Saturday and for once don’t have the headache of trying to get a pitch fit for play.
Borough have had a string of home postponements in the West Lancashire League, in spite of the considerable efforts of club officials at Bellholme.
Manager Craig Milnes even had a 3G pitch near his home at Bacup on stand-by for last weekend’s cup game against Kendal County but no avail.
Overnight snow meant both pitches were unfit.
Croston are the hosts in Division Two on Saturday and they will have a match fitness advantage, having played last weekend while Todmorden haven’t taken to the pitch since a 1-1 draw at Barrow Wanderers at the end of November.
Croston lost 5-2 at Stoneclough, who went above Borough into 10th place.
Millom went fifth with a 3-0 win at Walney Island, who are ninth, in the only other game in Division Two.
Milnes decided against trying to arrange a training session in midweek, due to the low temperatures, and is desperate for a return to action at Leyland-based Croston.
He said that at a league meeting some club representatives had expressed concerns about keeping players interested during long spells of inactivity.
Borough are in the same boat and Milnes said: “We really do need to get the players back together.
“We worked so hard to try to get a game last Saturday but it didn’t happen. The worry is that if the players aren’t playing they will find something else to do on a Saturday.”
Woodhouse United host Crompton, a team they lost 3-1 to away on January 11, in the Rochdale Sunday League this weekend.
All last weekend’s games perished with matches scheduled for Firgrove and Bowlee called off on Friday following a lunchtime inspection by Rochdale Council employees.
