Todmorden Wanderers under sevens returned to action with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Hebden Bridge Saints at Luddenden Dene.

Wanderers struck first when a superb corner by Lennie Halstead found its way to a perfectly-positioned Daniel Kelly, who slotted home.

Saints broke quickly but Ruben Aldred was alert and gathered the ball at the striker’s feet.

Wanderers took control with Alfie Senior, Harvey Cartmill and Isaac Waite all adding their names to the score sheet for a 4-0 lead at half time.

Saints proved tough opponents, pulling a goal back early in the second half.

Cartmill quickly took the lead back to four goals but Saints weren’t done and closed to 5-4 with the help of a penalty rebound after Aldred’s quick reactions had helped save the initial shot.

Man of the match Aidan Rodgers worked hard in the Wanderers defence, cutting off Saints attacks and slotting balls through for the midfielders to carry forward.

A last minute free kick for Wanderers took a deflection to complete the scoring.
