Calder Valley supporters of the St Augustine’s project in Halifax are hoping people will support an upcoming fundraising ceilidh.

In particular, the charity is one of those chosen by the Mayor of Hebden Royd, Coun Jonathan Timbers, during his Mayoral year.

The event is being held on Saturday, February 14, at 7.30pm at Pellon Social Club, Moor End Road, Halifax, said Catherine Putz, one of the event co-organisers who is from Hebden Bridge.

“The fabulous Peaceworks band are playing and there will be a raffle, food, fun as well as dancing,” she said.

Tickets are £8, £3 concessions and a family ticket for £16. You can telephone 01422 352492 to reserve a ticket.

“St Augustine’s Centre is based in Halifax and we work with over 200 a people a week who need information, support and advice just to get by in our complex world,” said Catherine. “Everyone is welcome. People come for help with language skills, finding work, queries about benefits, immigration and to meet and work with others.

“Our activities include craft, gardening and every Tuesday there is a lunch which is a place to make friends as well as have a meal.

“The Welcome Café runs every Monday and Wednesday morning.

“We also have an early years programme; running a thriving nursery and crèche. It’s always busy.

“All this is done with a few committed paid staff and a team of volunteers.

“However this can’t be done without money and we hope people will support the centre and this event generously.”
