In the run up to the Education Funding Agency’s decision on rebuild funding for Todmorden High School, student leaders at the school put their case as to how fellow students studies would benefit from better facilities.
On Friday, January 30, they were privileged to welcome Peter Lauener, Chief Executive for the Education Funding Agency, into our Todmorden High, Mr Lauener’s department being responsible for determining which schools will be allocated funding for a partial or full rebuild as part of the Priority Schools’ Building Fund.
Mr Lauener was joined by Craig Whittaker, Calder Valley MP, and senior representatives from the Local Authority.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Our visitors were guided by two of our student leaders; Head Boy, William and Year 7 student council representative, Caitlin.
“They spoke with Mr Lauener about their school and the Todmorden community and what a new building would mean to the students at Todmorden High School.
“Our students articulated their ambitions for the future and explained that new facilities and resources at Todmorden High School would help them realise these high ambitions and aspirations for their future.”
Will said: “I am coming to the end of my time at Todmorden High School - however I am still passionate that the Todmorden community and future students should have access to the building and resources that they deserve. I have a younger brother who will be coming to the school in a few years and I think it is important that he has access to facilities and resources that just weren’t there for me.”
Caitlin said: “My ambition is to become a PE teacher and I really enjoy sport. A new building with better facilities would mean I could try more things and improve my skills in lots of different types of sports and help me meet my ambition.”
Headteacher Andrew Whitaker said ‘We have really enjoyed welcoming Mr Lauener and guests into our school today to show him what a wonderfully ambitious cohort of students we have at Todmorden High School.
We hope that our students finally get the building that they so richly deserve.
In the meantime, all adults in association with the school continue to remain fully committed to ensuring that Todmorden High School becomes a truly outstanding school.”
