When the Temporary Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Dee Collins came to visit Todmorden we were absolutely delighted to meet her, the new police inspector for our region Rachel Bairstow and Sergeant Bob Saxon, who has took over from Sergeant Michael Bowden on his retirement, and of course Todmorden stalwart Constable Ryan Stockton.

The compost, liquid feed, plant pots and lamps recovered from raids on illicit cannabis farms kindly donated by West Yorkshire constabulary are a great help to our growing endeavours.

We are always slightly nervous meeting important new people but our new cops were really kind and put us at our ease straightaway so we were soon on first name terms and chatting away - it’s going to be great working together.

As many of you know we planted loads of fruit trees around town - the orchard at Harley Wood was planted on Valentine’s Day 2008, so it just had its seventh birthday - so we thought it very important to create a tree group to look after all the trees.

This month some incredible volunteers went on tree pruning courses to enable them join others who have already trained to get to grips with the big task of sorting out all that needs doing.

The group is headed up by Shirley Harris who is authorised by the committee to go round and check the condition of the trees and asses what work needs to be done.

If you see Shirley or the team at work do say hello and if you feel like getting involved do get in touch through the incredible edible website and you too could soon be tree carer.

One of the really exciting things this month was Incredible Edible committee member Lindsay Smales’ trip to Hong Kong and last Sunday, after the morning gardening session, Lindsay gave a presentation of his adventures in China at an open meeting in the Unitarian Church.

This was very well received and as Lindsay has been invited back later in the year which means we will be able to learn even more from each other’s projects. This of course may bring more visitors from China to our town, they will all need places to stay, will love shopping in our local businesses and on our market, I mean how could they not?

In my humble opinion we have the best independent shops, local food retailers and eateries for miles around.
