An independent retailer has raised £250 for a national charity which hopes to end violence against women. Valley Organics, of Market Street, has generated the money by selling specially designed tea-towels which feature three unique designs created by Hebden Bridge resident, Mike Barrett. The sizeable donation was made to Mytholmroyd based charity, White Ribbon UK which campaigns to end violence against women around the world. The UK arm, run by Chris Green was set up in 2004 and now has branches in Scotland and Wales. Chris said: “Many men ignore this problem, or see it as something which doesn’t have anything to do with them.

“We need to join women and women’s organisations in taking action against violence. You can take the first step by signing the pledge on our web site.”

Each tea-towel was made exclusively for Valley Organics in India from fair-trade organic cotton sewn by a women’s cooperative tailoring society.

The designs are based on the lettering typeface of the Old Packhorse bridge and cost £4.95.
