The Calder Valley donned their red noses to raise money for Comic Relief with events last weekend, including the following local groups and schools.

On Saturday, Josie McCarthy (centre development worker) and Katie Rose Elliot (centre’s playworker) ran a charity car wash event outside Dodnaze Community Centre.

Josie said: “Lots of our local children armed themselves with sponges and got to work washing lots of our local residents’ cars. It was a fantastic event, and the children managed to raise a whopping £40 in the one and a half hours, that the event ran for.

“Even though the day was particularly cold,it did not put any of the children off. I am really proud of them all.”

Katie said she would like to say a huge thank you to all that participated on the day. Afterwards all the children were treated to hot chocolate and biscuits to warm up.

At Ferney Lee School, Todmorden, pupils and staff dressed in a rainbow of colours and wore red noses, which they had bought throughout the week from the school.

Pupil Ava Bowmer-Wade baked cakes and cookies to sell after school to parents and children, while chocolate brownies made by Esther Friend were soon snapped up in the staff room for a donation. A sweepstake for staff and parents was held, and breakfast club beauticians gave “makeovers” to other pupils and staff. By the bstart of this week, with some to still come in, they had raised around £250.

Todmorden’s Bee Friendly Collective’s cake stall on Todmorden Market last Saturday saw members dress for the occasion and raise £204.94 for the appeal.
