Todmorden Harriers’ road championship continued with the Sweatshop 10, which had moved to a new venue at Bispham on Sunday.

Unlike the old pancake-flat course at St Annes, the new two-lap loop along the promenade of Blackpool’s North Beach featured around 100 metres of undulations. Conditions were ideal with cool temperatures and light winds.

The race was also the Lancashire 10 mile championship and attracted a quality field.

Nick Barber led the way for Todmorden, finishing first v40 and seventh overall in an excellent time of 57.06.

Richard Butterwick was the next Todmorden finisher in 38th, and while he narrowly missed a personal best, Michael Harper and David Leslie did clock their best times.

New Todmorden recruit Andy Walker finished in a very creditable 1hr 12 minutes while Peter Ehrhardt took another step towards his landmark ‘70 races at 70.’

Eilo Beesley, a 10-year-old who regularly runs, races and trains with Calder Valley FR, was amongst more than 1000 runners taking part in the Keighley Big 10K last Sunday.

He amazed his parents and coach by finishing 50th overall. His time was 41mins and 15 seconds...exactly seven minutes behind the winning man.
