One-way traffic as higher division foes thrash United

Woodhouse United were left reeling by surely the heaviest defeat in their Rochdale Sunday League history - a 23-1 cup mauling by Littleborough.

The Division One strugglers found Premier Division title contenders Littleborough far too hot to handle last weekend.

They were paying a high price for a rare victory, on penalties, in the previous round.

Joe Connor, who scored Woodhouse’s goal from a Ryan Bulcock corner in the League Cup tie, said United had struggled to raise a side.

“We had eight players turn up, so we had to ring three more who had only played for us in pre-season,” he said.

“Our top goal scorer, Jonny Sutcliffe, had to play at centre half and with regular players letting us down we didn’t have a chance.

“I think it was 7-1 at half time but I’m not entirely sure.”

Jay Connor tried to make things happen for Woodhouse but with a lack of quality in support he found it hard.

At least Woodhouse have some time to recover - their next game isn’t until April 12 when they host Lighthouse.
