Rehearsals are going well for the Little Theatre’s April comedy double bill written and directed by Alan Stockdill.
It being Spring the cast has a fresh feeling to it with the society welcoming five completely new actors to the stage. ‘Godfrey’s Last Stand’ has theatre stalwart Ray Riches as Freddy alongside veteran Huddersfield and Halifax actor in the title role of Godfrey.
Keith has won many awards for his work with Alan’s theatre company Talking Stock and completing the cast as his daughter Donna, is Karen Reynolds a drama teacher from Bradford College.
Nicely timed to co-incide with the opening of the cricket season, this charming play is about a local league cricket umpire who wins the lottery and decides to spend it on a boyhood dream – bringing the England and Australia cricket teams to play a match on his village green. How can he do it? And how can he get it past his daughter Donna who is not bowled over by the idea?
The second play,’Give a Little Love’ is about four former school friends who have a re-union at a Bay City Rollers tribute concert. After the first, warm hugs, old jealousies are rekindled and bitter memories revived.
Three newcomers are involved in this play: Sharon Holland Taylor a Halifax actress and writer has had wide experience in theatre and TV, one of her most off beat roles being the humanist minister at Alma Baldwin’s funeral in Coronation Street. There’s also Kerry Fennelly who won best actress at the Wakefield Drama Festival for her portrayal of Roxie in ’The Threefold Cord’ and Diane Todd, who played the best Maggie in Hobson’s Choice the Alan has ever seen! Completing the ensemble is Catherine Pasek who was last on the Hebden Stage playing Sarah in ‘Deadly Nightcap.’
Alan says: “Rehearsals have been a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to returning to my home theatre with these two plays. They are very different from each other but I can promise they will both contribute to a lively night’s entertainment with poignant moments, yet plenty of laughter.’
The plays run from April 20-25 and tickets are available online at www.hblt.org.uk, in person at Innovation or by ringing 843907.
