All seven Parliamentary candidates bidding for people’s votes for the Calder Valley seat in the General Election on May 7 debated at a hustings in Todmorden.

Last Thursday they came to the Todmorden Town Hall to debate questions.

Each candidate was given four minutes to put forward their views and party policies before answering questions from the public on a range of subjects which are important to them. Questions included local issues, Trident, fracking and the environment, welfare and benefits, and immigration.

The meeting was chaired by the Vicar of Todmorden, Rev Owen Page, who kept the panel of candidates and the audience in good order. In all, 160 people attended the lively and interesting debate, which was organised by Churches Together in Todmorden and supported by Todmorden Town Council.
