Halifax bid for eight in row against ‘Haven

Halifax will be looking to maintain an impressive recent record against Whitehaven when the pair clash in round 13 of the Championship at the Shay today (3.0).

Richard Marshall’s men, who are four places above the visitors in sixth, have won the last seven meetings between the clubs.

Whitehaven won 50-42 at the Shay on August 9, 2009 but since then Fax have won the three meetings at the Shay and the four clashes at the Recreation Ground.

Halifax did the double last year with 36-14 (away) and 52-12 (home) scorlines and have already won 44-16 away to their Cumbrian opponents this season, on February 15.

It will be Halifax’s last home game until Sunday, June 28 when London Broncos visit. Drainage work and reseeding of the pitch will start shortly.

Trialist Ed Barber is in Halifax’s squad for today’s game, the dual-code player having finished a winter playing rugby union for Huddersfield YMCA.

Barber, who has played the 13-a-side game at Elland, Newcastle Western Suburbs in Australia, Swinton Lions and Dewsbury, has been training with Halifax for four weeks.

He has impressed Marshall and can cover a number of positions.
