No rise in council tax precept

Householders in Todmorden will see no increase in their council tax precept in the financial year 2013/14.

Todmorden Town Council has set the precept at £35.81 for the coming year, the same figure as 12 months ago.

Councillors discussed the matter, taking into account the need to cover estimates and allow for retaining balances as reserves against the wish to keep the precept at an affordable level in the difficult economic climate.

The town council estimates its expenditure in the new financial year will be £241,943.

It will receive a block grant from Calderdale Council of £11,691, plus a council tax support grant of £33,039, leaving a figure of £189,510 required.

Given the precept level, the council’s projected reserves at the end of March 2014 would be £34,528.

While councillors felt this was quite low, they agreed that underspends on committee budgets in the current financial year could be added to the reserves.

In addition to the town council precept, householders must also pay the council tax figure set by Calderdale Council.

This amount is yet to be confirmed.
