A business has defied the economic gloom and reported strong trading over the Christmas period.
At the Original Factory Shop, on Halifax Road, Todmorden, like-for-like sales were up 8.6 per cent in the six weeks up to January 6.
A spokesperson for the store said: “We played a significant role for our customers, providing them with last-minute gifting inspiration as well as important non-food basics, right on their doorstep.
“Our sales performance in the run-up to Christmas really highlights the importance of convenience to our customers and that now, more than ever, it’s all about finding quality brands at factory shop prices.”
The news comes amid a difficult period for the UK high street, with several high profile casulties recently including HMV and Blockbuster.
Despite the market, the non-food convenience retailer as a whole anticipates a year of growth.
Angela Spindler, chief executive officer of The Original Factory Shop, said: “We were pleased with Christmas trading, achieving good growth in sales and profit despite the challenges of the market.
“As December progressed, sales got stronger with Christmas Eve being our highest turnover day ever.
“While we anticipate conditions will remain challenging for the retail sector, we see 2013 as another year of growth for us.”
