Todmorden Borough’s exciting pre-season campaign continued on Wednesday evening as they drew 3-3 with Midgley United, writes Miles Thompson.
Borough boss Craig Milne said the opening exchanges were “horrendous” as he saw his side go two goals down early on after an ex-player came back to haunt Todmorden and score the opening goal.
A goalkeeping error allowed Midgley to double their lead before the break, but Milne revealed that he was forced to field an outfield player in goal with player availability in that department at a premium.
A Jack Hartley header, shortly after the break, redcued the arrears, only for a Midgley midfielder to send a speculative 35-yard strike into the far corner to regain their two-goal advantage.
Milne then decided to make five changes and instantly reaped the benefits as Jim Crowther finished neatly after being put through one-on- one with the goalkeeper.
Milne described the game as “even throughout” and Todmorden gained their just rewards with minutes remaining as 16-year-old Henry Anson was too quick for a tiring Midgley defence.
The youngster was crudely brought down to offer Borough a share of the spoils.
Terry Lowe dispatched the late penalty and the game ended with six goals being shared.
Todmorden won 6-0 in their previous friendly outing, and will entertain Burnley Athletic in their fourth and final pre-season game this Saturday, with the league campaign finally getting underway on August 21 away at Bolton County.
Midgley, meanwhile, will kick off their season away to Holmfield on August 28.
