A two-day course will be held in Todmorden next week to take people on an exploration and find the clown within.
The introductory clowning course is a workshop for adults who want an experience of letting down the control barriers a bit, who are interested in spontaneity, experiencing things in the moment, and playing with the unplanned.
The course, which will be held at Union House, Hall Street, Todmorden, on Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10, is open to beginners and more experienced performers.
It will be led by Hannah Merriman, a Cornholme-based clown and facilitator who is also one of the Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade organisers.
Hannah said the world of the clown is not about “being stupid” – it is about being real, being yourself and being seen.
She said it is a place where our inner worlds come out to play.
The weekend course will consist of a series of games, exercises, movement and improvisation.
Hannah said: “This is a course where as an adult you get to be unguarded, a bit more spontaneous than in everyday life.
“It can feel scary, terrifying even, but everyone leaves feeling uplifted and like there are so many more possibilities in life.”
Rebecca Jones, who attended a previous course, said: “It was one of the most inspiring, life affirming, fun adventures I’ve ever been on.
“The world today seems so much bigger than it did two days ago and I seem to be spontaneously giggling quite a lot.
“I want to hold this forever.”
The cost for the weekend is £79. For more information or to book a place, call Hannah on 07960 652867.
