Organisers of the Handmade Parade have started preparations for this year’s event, which will involve more people than ever before.
The Handmade Parade will take place in Hebden Bridge on Saturday, June 22, with many community workshops taking place in the weeks leading up to the popular event.
Artistic director Andrew Kim said: “We’re thrilled to be able bring this celebration to our community for the sixth time.
“With an expanded parade art staff and exciting collaborations with Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, we’re looking forward to a very exciting parade and finale.
“But, as many people now know, it’s most fun to participate.”
As ever, the organising team is looking to the local community for ideas for the theme. Displays will be going up in Hebden Bridge Library and the Co-op, where people will have a chance to say what they would like to see in the parade.
The annual Spark Day will take place on Sunday, April 14, from 1-4pm at the Handmade Parade workshop on Victoria Road, Hebden Bridge. There will also be art-making workshops and plenty of other things going on, giving opportunities for people to get involved.
The Handmade Parade has received support from Calderdale Council and Hebden Royd Town Council, who have also made an additional contribution towards school workshops.
Parade co-ordinator Hannah Merriman said: “It is thanks entirely to Hebden Royd Town Council that every state primary school in the parish, as well as Calder High, will benefit from free workshops this year.
“They have shown a real commitment to encouraging creativity and inclusion for all young people and we’re really grateful.
“It looks like it’s going to be a bumper year.”
