Hair and Beauty with Imogen Thorpe: Messy buns and pulled-apart plates

If you take a good look in your monthly fashion magazines, gossip magazines and even the beauties on our television screens, you’ll see how hair has got some what simpler.

Scruffy is the way forward with loose French plates, side twists and more and more girls are embracing their natural hair. Whether you’re blessed with curly, wavy or straight hair, there’s styles that’ll complement it beautifully.

Instead of working against it, work with it!

For straight hair, try a high ‘ballerina’ bun, pulling your hair into a high ponytail then wrapping the rest of your hair around it. Once achieved; rub your hands along your hair line to create a ‘No effort’ look.

For curly hair, create a side parting and twist a fringe section away from the face. Hold in place with a grip and voilà. Side plates, especially fish tail plates look great in wavy hair, once you’ve popped a bobble in the end, pull apart the sections to create a messier feel.

Creating up styles at home has never been easier. The pressure of achieving an immaculate result has gone for the summer while curling, waving and crimping tools are available for us to use in the comfort of our own home.

Creating hair styles for special occasions in front of our own mirror with the help of online tutorial videos will also help us save the pennies so we can treat ourselves to a beautiful dress from Todmorden’s very own ‘The Staite Room’.

They even have a sale on!
