Litter pickers will be out in force in the upper Calder Valley tomorrow (Friday) as the Big Clean 2013 continues across Calderdale.
With spring finally in the air, Calderdale Council is organising a week of spring cleaning at sites across the borough.
Council teams will be tidying up areas owned and managed by Calderdale Council that are in need of a clean-up.
Launching the campaign, Calderdale Council’s Leader Coun Tim Swift said of the initiative: “We know that the bad winter has left behind more than the usual amounts of litter and rubbish - we’re taking action to deal with that and we’re asking local people to lend a hand.
“I hope this may become an annual campaign.”
If community groups and volunteers want to get involved to help make the borough sparkle, they will be very welcome, he said.
Equipment and bags will be provided and the council will help with the removal of anything collected at the end of the day.
Contact samantha.ward@calderdale.gov.uk for details of how to get involved.
Calderdale’s teams will also be cracking down on private land which is in a mess. The Council’s Environmental Health team will encourage landowners to clean up or face the possibility of enforcement action.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Coun Pauline Nash, said: “The Big Clean 2013 campaign is a great way to raise awareness and target areas which are in need of tidying up.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to get out and about in their community and make local areas tidy.”
